Heat treatment
Heat treatment refers to an industrial application, with which workers may heat or chill an item at extreme temperatures, to achieve a result that a designated material can be hardened to a desirable extent.
Heat treatment ranges from annealing, case hardening, precipitation strengthening, tempering, normalizing to quenching.
We often associate heat treatment with an increase in the strength of material, but heat treatment can actually serve to improve machining performance, enhance the plasticity of an object, or even make an object resilient after it has been kept in a freezer for a long period of time.
Steels
Steels are especially suitable for heat treatment for the reason that they are in nature well responsive to heat treatment. Needless to say, the use of steels goes far beyond that of any other materials in terms of industrial applications.
